Dr. Woods Castile Soap Review

dr woods1

I was recently sent three soap products to review by the company Dr. Woods. I received two bars of different castile soap (one in the scent “Ginger Citrus” and the other one was “Unscented – Baby Mild”) as well as a bottle of Pure Peppermint Castile Soap. The overall packaging is adorable with the Dr. Woods tree logo printed on the front of the box. Did I mention the box is also recyclable?

The design of the bar is simple and straightforward. There are no strange dyes or synthetic fragrances to worry about. On the front of the bar, there is the Dr. Woods tree logo and on the back of each bar there is a quote imprinted: “All Things Good”.  Overall, I enjoyed using the bars because they are so gentle and moisturizing. I just wet the bar and rub it on my loofah and I’m good to go. They do not leave any weird residues behind and the “Ginger Citrus” scent is light and not overpowering at all. The bars lather nicely and have great ingredients. If you are concerned about any fragrances due to allergies, then the unscented bar is perfect for you. These are also perfect for traveling on a plane, so you don’t have to worry about making a mess in your carry-on luggage or measuring the right amount of ounces. I currently keep mine in plastic soap containers I got from CVS. If you guys have any suggestions of bar soap containers to try please let me know. 🙂

Lastly, the castile soap in liquid form is probably my favorite product out of the bunch. At first, I was worried that the peppermint fragrance would be too strong, but surprisingly, it wasn’t. It’s actually quite refreshing and it did not irritate my skin at all. I love using this soap as a body wash, facial cleanser, and as a hand soap.

According to the back label:

Peppermint Castile Soap with Organic Shea Butter incorporates the natural healing properties of olive oil and shea butter with an invigorating peppermint scent. The olive oil in our castile soap attracts moisture and while, holding that moisture close to the skin, forms a breathable layer preventing the loss of that moisture. The shea butter is an ultra moisturizer helping the regeneration process of dry skin.

Ingredients: Water, Saponified Coconut, Hemp & Olive Oils with retained Glycerin, Organic Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii), Vitamin E Oil (Tocopheryl Acetate), Peppermint Oil, Sea Salt, Citric Acid, Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) Extract.

The label also lists several other uses for the product such as a detergent for washing delicate clothing, shampoo for your hair, and a perfect all-in-one traveling accessory for camping trips! It is pH balanced, biodegradable, and contains no Lauryl/Laureth Sulfates. I don’t know about you, but I am a huge fun of multi-tasking products, and the fact that this product is good for both you and the environment is just icing on the cake. If you have ever tried Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap, this is a similar product, but I think the addition of the shea butter makes a huge difference in the texture and overall performance of the product. It has a thicker consistency than Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap and I find it to be much more moisturizing. I’m now interested in checking out the Almond version of this product next as well as their facial cleansers.
